Welcome back!
I made plenty of rookie mistakes while passing through the prenatal and postpartum years with my two children. Specifically, I spent money I didn’t have on things I didn’t need or never used, and discovered certain essential items that caused rashes instead of healing them, or that fell apart before I could finish putting them together. I now believe that it is more important to be prepared emotionally, mentally and physically for the birth of a new child than to buy unnecessary “stuff.” I certainly have higher standards for mom and baby items that come into my home. Anything that goes on our skin, the largest organ of our bodies, gets special attention.
Today, I am delighted to introduce you to my one of my all time favorite sites for eco-friendly, organic mom and baby care. Saffron Rouge provides honest advice, unbiased suggestions and celebrity-coveted organic, biodynamic, fair trade and natural beauty brands. President and Founder, Kirstin Binder personally searches the globe, finding, testing and approving each product that you’ll find.
Every brand featured on SaffronRouge.com is committed to offering pure, ecology-friendly, organic and/or biodynamic products. Husband and wife team, Jeff and Kirstin Binder, have extensive backgrounds in the fields of phytotherapy (herbal medicine) and natural health. As parents (the website is named after their daughter, Saffron), they are particularly conscious of using only the most gentle products not only to benefit the health of their family, but to benefit the health of the earth.
Be sure to check out Kirstin’s organic beauty and eco-lifestyle blog. Today she posted a Hey Baby article featuring my “never-be-without” product: Erbaviva Baby Lip & Cheek Balm. It’s supposed to be for kids, but I personally use it daily. At $10, it is one of the highest quality affordable luxuries I’ve ever come across! Everything on Saffron Rouge is 100% satisfaction guaranteed. Take a look for beautiful, earth-friendly ways to nourish yourself and your entire family with safe, effective, eco-conscious skin care.

For my wife and I, we just don’t see any point in buying things for our baby unless we absolutely have too. I mean, there are so many people out there getting rid of baby stuff and parent gear that we have hardly had to buy anything. I can think of two toys out of three big bins of toys that we actually bought our child. And clothes! There we have purchased a few more things on our own, but we’ve had handed down tons of clothes.
My question is where the ‘disposable vs. cloth’ diaper debate stands now. We’ve been going the cheap route buying disposables at Target for about $.15 each. The G-Diaper is over twice that and seems complicated. Cloth uses a lot of water so that’s not good either from what I hear. My biggest question is: What are those water absorbing granules in the disposable diapers and are they healthy for our babies?
