Welcome back!
Are you ready to win one of the best nursing pillows anywhere? Today I’m showcasing one of my favorite products for empowering new parent’s lives, one of the absolute essentials I believe no nursing mother should be without. Andrew Zenoff, creator of My Brest Friend nursing pillows, joined me in December on The Mommy-Muse Is In: Empowering Your Journey into Motherhood. Check out the 3rd segment of the show, beginning at about the 30 minute mark, to hear his words of wisdom. Notice that he donated a gift certificate good toward one of these nursing pillows, and that the winner could be you.
Personally, I didn’t have a My Brest Friend when I started out with my first baby. I entered my nursing experience with a Boppy, but had a lot of difficulty until a lactation consultant fit me with a My Brest Friend Nursing Pillow.
I can tell you there is a good reason why the My Brest Friend is the number one choice of lactation consultants. Instantly, I felt a sense of relief as my baby was positioned properly against my body and I began to relax and nurse easier. My Brest Friend became my constant companion through my nursing experiences. I now give them as gifts and recommend them as the absolute best nursing pillow for my friends and clients.
Here’s a taste of the Q & A with Andrew Zenoff from our interview:
Christy: “Tell us why a nursing pillow is important.”
Andrew: “Two-thirds of moms who move toward breastfeeding when they have their baby will seek outside support to help them get positioning and to latch on properly. On one hand, it seems quite natural to breastfeed your baby and it is natural, but on the other hand, there are some specifics about how to have the baby latch onto your nipple properly and how to have the proper positioning.
Moms will seek outside support. They’ll go to lactation consultants, they’ll buy products, but ultimately, it all comes down to positioning. How can mom get comfortable and how can she put the baby in the right position? My Brest Friend was created to do exactly that, to put the mom in the right position to support her, so that latch on is easy and effortless.”
Christy: “How did you go about designing the My Brest Friend?”
Andrew: “I did it through a combination of different parts that came together. First, I met with a ton of new moms and really listened deeply to what it was they were saying, where they needed support, what wasn’t working for them with the other nursing pillows, and what were some of the other contraptions they were creating. One was to really listen deeply to what breastfeeding moms said they needed to support, and what wasn’t working.
I also worked with lactation consultants to understand, for them, what were the important areas for support. I just combined the best of everything I learned about what a mom would ideally want, how it would feel, and where she needed support. I did a lot of intuitive feeling myself, imagining holding a baby and where my body would want to have support, just to hold a baby close to my chest.
I spent a year relentlessly listening and then slowly designing prototypes that I tested with nursing moms. The product has really been a creation out of listening and really delivering what I heard.”
