Welcome back!
Wow, that was fun! I just had a great interview on the flip side of the phone with VoiceAmerica.com host Jackie Rogers on The Kitchen Table Entrepreneur! Would you like to know more about how Mommy-Muse.com came to be? About how Linda and I work together as a team to bring you the best information, resources and support for the profound transition into new parenthood? Then you’ve got to listen in to today’s episode of The Kitchen Table Entrepreneur. Jackie asked me questions that really made me think, about the way my own experience with postpartum depression presents an invaluable level of authenticity, and about all the things that were missing from my personal experience as a new mom that I was determined to incorporate into Mommy-Muse.com. As Jackie said, Starbucks was born out of one man’s quest for a decent cup of coffee. Here are the things both Linda and I longed for during our postpartum experiences that we bring to you now:
· A sense of connection with other people in society who could understand what we were coping with. I went to mom and baby groups, but most of the new mothers I saw seemed to be having an easier experience than I was. As a result, I felt embarrassed to reach out for someone to talk to. Looking back, I realize that many of those women could very well have been putting on a good act, but I didn’t know it at the time.
· Accessibility of counseling. It seemed so difficult to arrange for care for my chronically fussy baby to see a counselor alone, and just getting my little one geared up and in the car was a much greater challenge than most people would think. I longed for some kind of easy access support, but didn’t find it. That was definitely a driving force in creating mommy-muse.
· Good quality information on what I was going through and what could help. 7 years ago, the internet was available, but there was limited availability of high quality information in this field. I devoted myself to publishing continually updated, free information for new parents in addition to my e-books and counseling services.
· Affordable help. A traditional trip to a counselor requires driving, perhaps daycare, and oftentimes, higher fees than we charge at Mommy-Muse.com. A one hour session could translate to three hours of time if I included the prep time to get myself and my child out the door or to a daycare plus the round-trip drive to a qualified professional.
· Flexible scheduling that could easily fit within my upside down life experience. During my years of living on “baby time,” I was chronically sleep deprived, awake much of the night hours and desperate for naps during the day. Linda and I wanted to create something that was easy access, 24-7, to alleviate this situation. Clients can write us any time of the day or night and rest assured they will get a supportive response within 24 hours or less.
There’s lots more to learn in my tell-all interview. You’ll even be able to hear me blush on the air as Jackie Rogers went on about how wholesome I look, about the apples on my cheeks and about how I might just burst into song
