Mommy-Muse.com Favorites: Win YOUR SpellQuizzer Spelling Software!

by mmuse on July 29, 2009

Welcome back!

SpellQuizzerI’m sure many of you, like me, have at least one school-age child along with a younger one.  Those of you who do will appreciate the reason I was searching for a spelling software to save my sanity.  My 7 year old loves reading, but needs lots of practice with spelling.  Somehow, her younger sister just doesn’t think it’s fun to listen to me repeating the words over and over and over again (and of course, neither do I).  This results in her need to turn spelling time into try-everything-to-engage-big-sister-and-make-it-impossible-to-concentrate-time.  So I found myself highly motivated to find the perfect spelling software for my family.

I wanted something that was flexible enough to work with any spelling curriculum I choose, including the creation of custom spelling lists.  It needed to be affordable, homeschool friendly, and I wanted to record phrases in my own voice (rather than the computer generated voice some use).   I tried several different trials of spelling software before happily settling on SpellQuizzer

SpellQuizzer is user friendly and simple to get started with.  There are free, pre-made spelling lists that I have been working with, which can be downloaded and used from the SpellQuizzer website.  You can even export and import spelling lists to share with other SpellQuizzer users.  The system will easily accommodate both traditional and homeschool needs.  As these needs are a bit different, homeschooling parents may want to check out the page on their site specifically directed toward homeschoolers

Best of all, my daughter loves it.  Her spelling has improved tremendously in just one month.  She can work through the lists at her pace while I spend some quality time with little sister, leaving everybody satisfied.  Now it’s your chance to explore SpellQuizzer.  They are giving away a license to one lucky Mommy-Muse reader.  Send me a comment on this post and you’ll be in the running for a free license to this Mommy-Muse Favorite!

My 7 year old boy says reading is “boring” and I’m sure its because his vocab and spelling is not yet up to a level to get into some really cool, fun books.

I’ve yelled and hissed my way through all 7 Harry Potters at bed-time, which we loved. It doesn’t quite cut the mustard for him to read (struggling): ‘Tom the chicken pecks eagerly at the ground’. The trouble is, a key solution — spelling — is apparently also “boring”. So we go through the whole “Darling, the reason we do this is so one day you’ll be able to…” Yawnnnn!

Yay! Bring on a fast, PAINLESS and…dare I say fun?…way to do spelling!

Lol! Just noticed my grammatical error: ‘…his vocab and spelling IS not yet up to a level..” Do these guys also do fun syntax lessons on-line?
