When we moved in 2005, our house hadn't closed yet, but we had renters in our old house. School was starting and, still, our closing docs languished in a pile of escrow-infused red tape.

Everything we owned was in storage, until our staorage unit was broken into. My kids started school with pencils and pens dappled with logos for mortgage companies and home security systems, courtesy of a real estate trade show.

The seven of us slept in the only reasonably-priced hotel room available in town - a queen bed, a pullout sofa and three inflatable air mattresses. We made Top Ramen and instant oatmeal in the in-room coffee maker. We washed clothes in the bathtub and hung them over the shower curtain to dry.

I am please to report that they survived an entire ten days of such ill-prepared madness. Blessedly, our house did finally close!

Puts school preparation in perspective, for me.

Haha...Great post, can relate to a heap of stuff here!
I used to have the typical "OH NO! Someone's at the door and the washing's on the table, dishes not done and Ewww! the FLOOR!" Just wish I knew about mom's groups on line, 4 years ago!

Now, as a working mother I have a lovely fresh set of guilts...Rushed out this morning so his lunch is so boring! And I'm not sure I checked his spelling thoroughly enough for his test today! Lol!...maybe Hubby is right and the guilt is nuts, but somehow I think the world really WILL end if the dishes are not put away...or worse, the doorbell may ring! :-)
