Remembering 2,996 Lives on 9/11

by mmuse on September 11, 2009

Welcome back!

armsofproject2996I was 6 months pregnant on September 11, 2001.  I woke to answer the ringing phone, my mom’s voice tense on the other end.  She  simply said “Turn on the TV.”   I did, and watched in horror as the events unfolded in front of my eyes.

At my checkup a week later, my midwife shared deep concerns about her pregnant and postpartum mothers processing the traumatic events of 9/11.  With bodies and minds focused on providing a safe nest for new lives in our care, we felt exceptionally vulnerable.

Eight years later, with two beautiful children I am blessed to share each day with, I signed up to honor the 2,996 lives that were lost on that day.  I will be posting a tribute to at least one of these people – to rightly remember their life, not their death.  If you are interested, please take a look at Project 2,996.  Even if you don’t have a blog, there are ways to help.
